Wired Differently — the parenting course coming from Laura Maelstrom, MSc Psychology ✦ Neurodiversity Specialist Teacher ✦ First UK solo autistic researcher in her field

Sound familiar?

You love your kid fiercely. You also feel completely lost sometimes. You're not a bad parent — you're a parent who hasn't been given the right tools.

You're exhausted from the meltdowns

And the guilt that follows. You don't know if you handled it right. Nobody tells you what "right" even looks like.

The school system isn't helping

You're fighting battles on their behalf, translating your child to the world, and doing it all on empty.

You've read ALL the books

And most of them feel clinical, cold, or completely irrelevant to your actual child, in your actual house.

You worry you're getting it wrong

The masking, the sensory stuff, the social struggles. You want to support them without accidentally making it worse.

You just want to connect with them

Properly. Without it ending in a standoff. You want them to feel safe with you — and know that they are.

You see how brilliant they are

And you want to raise them in a way that protects that — not squashes it into a neurotypical mould.

Why Laura?

🧚

I'm Laura Maelstrom — neurodiversity specialist teacher, MSc Psychology, coach, and the first UK solo autistic researcher to conduct research into autism. I'm also autistic myself. I'm not teaching this from a textbook. I'm teaching it from inside the experience.

I spent over a decade in education supporting neurodivergent young people, watching parents struggle not because they didn't care — but because nobody gave them a framework that actually made sense of their child's brain. This course is that framework.

It's psychology-backed, trauma-informed, and delivered in the way I wish someone had handed me: straight-talking, warm, and actually useful.

The course curriculum

Eight modules. Real content. No fluff, no overwhelm — just the stuff that actually changes how you show up for your kid.

01
How Their Brain Actually Works
  • The neuroscience of a divergent nervous system (in actual English)
  • Why their behaviour makes perfect sense once you understand this
  • ADHD, autism, dyslexia, PDA — what's different and what overlaps
  • Busting the myths that are making your life harder
02
Regulation Before Relationship
  • Why trying to reason during a meltdown never works (and what to do instead)
  • The window of tolerance and how to use it as a parent tool
  • Co-regulation: what it means and how to do it when you're dysregulated too
  • Building your own regulation toolkit first
03
Sensory Worlds & Environment
  • The eight sensory systems and why five isn't the whole picture
  • Reading your child's sensory profile (without a formal assessment)
  • Home adjustments that make a real difference without a renovation budget
  • Sensory support at school — what to ask for and how
04
Communication That Actually Works
  • Why standard communication advice backfires with neurodivergent kids
  • Processing differences and how to give instructions they can actually follow
  • The demand-avoidance spectrum and low-demand language
  • Scripts for the hard conversations (meltdowns, diagnosis, "why am I different")
05
Masking, Identity & Self-Esteem
  • What masking really costs your child (and what you can do about it)
  • Helping them build identity outside the diagnostic label
  • Protecting self-esteem when the world keeps telling them they're "too much"
  • Celebrating the wiring without toxic positivity
06
Navigating Systems & School
  • Your rights — what schools must provide and how to enforce it
  • EHCPs, SEN support, SALT, OT — what it all means and how to get it
  • Working with professionals who don't always get it
  • Advocating for your child without burning out
07
Parenting Without Burning Out
  • Why parent wellbeing is not a luxury — it's the intervention
  • The grief that comes with a diagnosis (and why it's okay)
  • Managing the mental load of navigating a neurodivergent family
  • Building a village when the standard village doesn't understand
08
Raising a Thriving Neurodivergent Human
  • Long game thinking — raising toward independence, not compliance

Frequently asked

Do I need a formal diagnosis for my child to benefit?
Absolutely not. Many children are on waiting lists for years — or never get a formal diagnosis at all. If your gut is telling you your child is neurodivergent, this course is built for you.
What ages of children does this cover?
The content is most applicable for children aged 4–16. The fundamentals apply across all ages, and specific guidance is given for younger children and teenagers where things differ significantly.
What does "register interest" mean — am I committing to buying?
Zero commitment. You're simply going on the early notification list. You'll be the first to know when the course launches, what the pre-sale price is, and when doors open. No payment, no obligation, no pressure.
What's the pre-sale benefit?
Interest registrants get priority access at the lowest price the course will ever be, plus exclusive extras like the live Q&A calls that won't be included after launch.
Is this UK-specific?
The school advocacy module references UK legislation and processes (SEN, EHCPs). Everything else is globally applicable. International parents are very welcome — just note that section may need local interpretation.
What if I'm neurodivergent myself?
Welcome home. This course is designed with neurodivergent parents in mind. Everything is available in text format as well as video, with short digestible modules rather than marathon sessions.
